Background: Adolescent polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is being diagnosed more frequently as the prevalence of childhood obesity increases. Adolescent PCOS has been associated with low birth weight (LBW), exaggerated adrenarche (EA) and metabolic syndrome in Mediterranean populations.
